06:49 am - Killing spambots & other known malicious hosts
I've found the best way to reduce the amount of faux-users appearing in your userlist (like poker, with a url pointing to poker.com or whatever) is to block them from your entire site - not just with phpbb but everywhere.  This is easily done with .htaccess.

Place the following in your .htaccess file (assuming you have mod_rewrite turned on in apache).  This will prevent known spammers (such that are infecting your memberlist) from accessing your site.

Okay, I'm new to the community *wave* I've had my phpbb board for almost a year, and it's pretty small, never gotten much traffic.

Then, a few weeks ago, all of a sudden my board got flooded with fake accounts like "texas holdem" and "poker" and the like. One of the fellow admins turned on Admin activation, so they can't post without our okay, but they keep making new accounts like every day. It's kind of baffling, since my site has little traffic and has nothing to do with gambling or ringtones or that nonsense.

Is there anything else I can do? I've disabled all the names I can think of, but how do I know their IPs to ban them (they're not online when I am)? Can I disable the domain email they're using? can I disable new account creation altogether until they get tired and go elsewhere?

This has been going on for too long and is driving me nuts. Please, if you can, help.

07:40 pm - Session_admin?
I accidentially deleted the session_admin field from phpbb_sessions and right now I can't access any of my other databases. I plan on just making a new field there, but I have forgotten the mySQL values for that table (type? null/not null? length?).

Could somebody please post those? Thanks. :)

05:05 pm - phpBB 2.0.16 released
The announcement may be found here:
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=302011

As usual, the download is available here:
http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php

(all that follows is taken directly from the mailing-list announcement)

As per usual three packages are available to simplify your update. The Full Package contains entire phpBB2 source and English language package. The Changed Files Only contains only those files changed from previous versions of phpBB. Please note this archive contains changed files for each previous release. Patch Files contains patch compatible patches from the previous versions of phpBB. Select whichever package is most suitable for you.

The changelog (contained within this release) is as follows:
- Fixed critical issue with highlighting - Discovered and fix provided by Ron van Daal
- Url descriptions able to be wrapped over more than one line again
- Fixed bug with eAccelerator in admin_ug_auth.php
- Check new_forum_id for existence in modcp.php - alessnet
- Prevent uploading avatars with no dimensions - Xpert
- Fixed bug in usercp_register.php, forcing avatar file removal without updating avatar informations within the database - HenkPoley
- Fixed bug in admin re-authentication redirect for servers not having index.php as one of their default files set

As always, our Code Changes Tutorial is available too for those with heavily modded boards.
It can be downloaded from http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=301712

Hello, I've been using phpbb for quite a while now. I wasn't really into all the mod things, so I've never used them before. I was taking a look at the cash and points hack yesterday and decided I'd install the EasyMod so it wouldn't take so long in the end with installing all the hacks I wanted. I put in all my ftp informatino and it said it had established a connection. I went to the next step where it had to configure the files and create a table. The table was created but only a few of the files were copied and I got several "Critical Errors". I'm lost and I have no idea what to do. If anyone could help me with this I would really appreciate it!
